Hi there.. With discus a lot depends on the size discus you are planning on purchasing. At any size discus are happiest in groups..
your tank probably 5 adults or semiadult would be the max.. You could probably add some small tetras like cardinals or rummynose and a bn to clean up. Or you could try and find a mated pair of adults.
For juvies you could get away with more, use it as a growout tank and sell some as they grow but I would advise against any tankmates with them other than a bn for cleanup/algae eating. Juvies need to be fed very often and lots of waterchanges or they get stunted or ill.
. I assume you have been doing some reading and realize that altho discus are not as fragile as once thought to be, they do require more attention to water quality than the fish you are currently keeping. They are wonderful fish and you will not regret getting them if you commit to their needs. I suggest along with this great forum you also check out simplydiscus a forum devoted to these guys. Lots of expertise on both forums.
I've also tried bolivians in my discus tanks in the past and they really don't like the high heat. The blue rams, altho more fragile are better suited to an adult discus tank. HTH Sue
