Mated pairs are nice but they breed. 
This leads to MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome). Been there and done that.
Anyway, rather than going with a pair in such a large tank a group of 5 or 6 would look magnificent AND, with your tank being planted, once a week water changes would work out as long as your weekly change was 50-80%.
I'm a big fan of discus in the planted tank and they thrive!
