New to Discus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
base on how big they get the clown loaches tends to bother the discus. of course theres always an exception but as for a begginer i tend to recomend the basics
I agree, a beginner should keep it simple.............

...and how long it will take for the clown's to get that big. I've been having 4x CL's (3.5"-4.5") with my discus for almost a year now with nothing but happiness and they even feed side by side.
You're telling me. CL's are SLOW growers. It's no wonder when you find good sized CL's LFS are asking a pretty penny for them...............

If your putting them in a planted tank you cant or shouldnt get juvies. Get adults and you should be just fine. I have 7 CL in with my discus and they didnt bother each other at all. Three of them were around 7". But as said it all depends on the fish. CLean water and the same care as you should give any other fish and you'll be ok

I have 7 of the full grown discus in a 75 gallon planted tank with 30% WC/2times/week without a single problem in the last 2 years.
Like many, I don't like the look of bare bottom tank.
They are roughly 2 to 3 years old.
I had them as sub adult around 4" to start with (in a bare-bottom tank).
To minimize the extra waste produced by unconsumed food, I feed them mainly live black worms and Tetra Color Bits 1 time/day.
I don't have anything else in the tank but a bunch of BN Plecos.
They are too slow and small for discus. They tend to do a better job of cleaning the tank and all. They do poop a lot, but it's good for plants.
Good luck ...

I never said Cl doesn't work like angels many keep the 2 together with no problems and many had nightmares. My advice was a no as you shouldn't advice what might and might not work with discus if they haven't had discus yet. I like to keep thing basic for beginners

but you think a 10x2x2 is a beginner's setup? :)
