New to fh

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just make sure that you are feeding him good pellet foods that will help him with his color and kok formation. he's really nice looking. Take care of your water issues and I think he will be a happy fish again. I purchased crushed coral so stabilize my ph and I put it in a media bag in my tank. So you haven't done anything beside a water change since his kok shrunk? again make sure that when you do water change the temperature matches and you put in the prime and mixed it before putting it into the tank. (i know you said the temp doesn't fluctuate much and that it's well water but just check the temp to make sure)

Fh’s kok shrink when they’re stress. Like Aria said, check your water parameter. Did u cycle ur tank properly? If water is good, then just give it some time. I’ve seen fh’s head shrunk up at competition, and it take weeks for it them to get back to normal. The shipping may have just stressed him out.

Okay. Thanks for your help. Kok is getting better and dimple is OK now. Can you guys guide me how to properly setup a bio filter. 60 gal tank with attached top filter and I have added one more sponge layer underneath, plus added a sponge filter through air pump. Please correct me if I'm wrong..

I have a tank with two canister filters and two large sponge filters. I also have a 40 gallon set up with two large sponge filters one with a power head one with a air stone. that's all I'm going to use for filtration in that tank. So you have a hang on the back filter with a sponge modification on it and a sponge filter? sounds good to me. just test your water and make sure your parameters are good. you did make sure to cycle the tank?

Yes, I have default top filter setup came with the tank and have added one more blue sponge under the soft white sponge for cycling purpose. Yesterday, I have added medium size sponge filter additionally, which helps water rotation well in tank, and he is super active now. I yet to test my water condition as I ordered testing kit just a day ago. I cycled the tank for 4 days before introducing him.

yeah that might not have been long enough, did you seed the aquarium or get a turbo start for the nitrifying bacteria? i'm afraid if the tank isn't cycled properly then the water quality is going to be harmful to your fish. when you get the water test kit test asap. I know you use well water so maybe it's ok. but the biggest thing with these fish is water quality.

No, I didn't use any of them and I'm still waiting for test kit to be received.
He is good now, kok is much better than before. Updated pic below.

I need one more help on partial water change. I'm planning to use tap water instead of well water. I have seachem laboratories and I can match up water temperature. How do I use seachem for de chlorinate tap water. Can I use conditioner directly into the tank?

From what I've heard it depends on the fish, kamfa prefer water that has been sitting. I mix the dechlorinator with my water and keep it in a tub with an air stone and thermometer. The reaction is pretty much instant but I give it 20 minutes to circulate through the water.

Thank you for your help. Will wait for 15 to 20 mins then.
