Hi all, Im new here and was hoping to learn a alot about keeping natives. Well for me/us smb. I am a reptile guy, but low and behold im dating a fish girl lol. So we have decided to get into a 75g tank to keep 1 maybe 2 small mouth. I was just hoping a bunch of you could give us some pointers on care and set ups befor we take the plunge, as we are trying to learn as much as possiable first. also anyone that wants to post pics that would be awsome, as looking at other peoples set ups is amazing to me, when it comes to natives. Thanks in advance
regards
Stefan

You're going to need a much larger aquarium than a 75 gallon in order to house even a single adult smallmouth bass. Do you have plans to setup a larger aquarium in the near future for them?

Yes we plan on moving up to a 180, 75 is jut to start. It will only be one animal in there

I have 3 LMB and there about a year old. I love them. Hard to keep as fry though. I lost 2 right away. The 3 left has since grown to 8-10" monsters. I keep them in a 150gl but in Jan will be moving to a 400gl. Make sure you feed them a healthy diet meaning different types of good food. Worms, pellets, frozen shrimp, live feeders (be careful there healthy), and anything else they'll eat. They love to eat!

Thanks for the info I appreciate it

Are you set on a smallie? Your 75 and 180 would be great for multi-species native setups with various panfish, bullheads, and so on. I at least prefer a tank with a group of fish- half the fun is watching them interact.

Honestly Im just learning at this point. Its the wife who wants it. She loves bass all together. I asked her that when she up grades could I use the 75 for pan fish.

Having a tank big enough with a male and female smallie could be absolutely amazing. The easiest way I think would be a custom tank...I wanted to do a 4'x4' tank (only about 12" deep) for my SMB in my lab. Great fish, lots of personality, but also very mean. :D
