Here is the trick with the significant others part...get her into the hobby slowly. Have her with you when you go look at fish. Maybe even get her into a lower maintenance fish like a betta. My girlfriend was initially not interested in fish, but now look at the tanks I have. This all started with a 10 gallon tank for me and a betta for her.
Seriously though crack would be cheaper and easier than starting the fish addiction.
