well the mussels i have had for a few weeks, but they have been kept in a tank at school for over 4 months. These guys are pretty hardy, however, if u put any chemicals or medicine in the tank, they tend to accumulate in the shellfish and can kill it. I know my 10 gallon has heavy algae growth due to the heat lamp, which gives the mussels a steady supply of plankton to eat.
