New to Hystrix

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hystrix, like most other rays, should live a long time (10+ years). I've had mine for almost 4 years now. Larger rays will eat quite a bit. I feed mine every day, and often skip one feeding a week. Usually enough to round their bellys a bit. I'm not a proponent of stuffing them full everyday.
If you order some hystrix from your vendor, make sure they are from Brazil. There are other rays labeled as "hystrix" but they aren't. It will be a good idea to quarantine them too.

I've allway say hungry fish healthy it seems it applys to rays also... Jeje
Have seen Colombian hystrix there's any difference from the Brazilian hystrixs obviously rather than the origin?

What folks consider to be a hystrix comes from Brazil. There are some good pictures on here of what they look like. Not sure what a hystrix from Columbia is, but the two aren't the same. Most likely it would grow much larger that a Brazilian hystrix.

the hystrix from columbia are probably going to come in as retics, or a yepezi looking one. i think brazil is getting ready to open up again i would wait for that. idk havent paid much attention to marketplace. but dont think it already passed.

i think they may have started but not fully. i am starting to see small leos popping up. no hystrix yet. i have been looking. i have been keeping an eye out for some females for my male. there have been a few from private sources but i just have had funds get used by other situations. other then those it is dry on the hystrix front.
