Yeah, for breeding purposes, though I think all limas are wild caught? or they used to be, might be bred now not sure.

Heres a quick little video of it:

It mostly seems to be hanging out near the top of the tank in one of the corners...just taking time to settle in I guess? He hasn't seemed to notice any food (even with the sillar dollars aggressively feeding around 'em). Are they hard to get to feed at that size? Should I pick up a couple rosey reds at the LFS tomorrow? When should I get concerned that its not eating?

I was expecting a shipment of fish food to come in today that I ordered last week...but I guess it'll show up tomorrow. In that order are freeze dried bloodworms and FD brine shimp, FD river shrimp, hikari sinking carnivore pellets, and some tetra-algae crisps (for the silver dollars..). Think I'll have much luck getting it to take any of those foods? Also picked up sinking shrimp pellets today..

it may just take a bit longer to settle in, try feeding after about an hour of lights out, pred cats tend to feed best at night to start with - and he should not have to beat the silver dollors.

i am sure he is a lima with a freek tail! still looks cool

limas tend to hang out high and low in the tank, not just at the bottom like most cats

They are a pain in the ass to get feeding to start with, as they are all wild caught (or as I said before used to be, not sure now though) they tend to only want to take live food.

Wouldnt worry to much, when I got mine it took maybe 2 weeks to get them to feed, once I "broke" them in kind of thing they turn into right little gluttons, one of mine is still kind of picky, but the other one will eat literaly anything, he will gorge himself on pellets I give my Oscars, the bits that they drop etc, he swims about nabbing it all.

To me it just looks like a Lima with a slight deformaty, just happens to have been born a bit different, though someone feel free to correct me.

Nice little fish, if you get worried about it not eating try some live worms or something, but I kind of starved mine untill they decided to eat something that wasnt alive, most predatory catfish can go a long time without food, as can most fish in general.

Oh and little edit - they can hang around anywhere, mine tend to hang around some plastic reed type plant I have vertical with their nose down, its how they hunt in the wild, very rarely just sit on the bottom like other cats.

Update! :nilly:

Its starting to swim around and explore more. It's already found a spot where it likes to idle near verticle (as someone said it does while hunting in the wild). Also notice it dart forward about an inch once or twice (seperate occasions), I'm hoping it was nipping at a piece of a pellet floating by, but I couldn't see anything...hes hanging out in a low light area.

Well in the last 5 minutes i've watched a decent hunk of a crushed cichlid gold pellet float close enough to trigger a strike, but it keeps spitting it back out :/ Really hope that food gets here tomorrow....I doubt I'll have problems with the freeze dried stuff.
