Hi everybody, My name's Kenny and I'm new to this cool hobby. hopefully this site is as helpful and as cool as Nano-Reef.com.:headbang2 Anyhoo, enough of that,
I was thinking about making/digging myself a pond but im limited on money.
How big of a pong can I get for around $2000 USD? Oh yeah, I live in Samoa, California if any of you guys are wondering. Anyhoo, what do I need, what can I have in terms of livestock, and how big can I make the pond?
I'm planning on it being 10x15x3 ft.

Any suggestions guys and gals???

I'll log in once a day at about this time.

Thank you all.

2K will get you a lot.... I would post this in the outdoor pond section though

so theres an "outdoor pond" section? i must not have read the entire thing through and through. thanks for the help guys!

and what would $2,000 get me?! you guys say a lot, but ive been looking at pond liners and concrete ponds, and that stuff is EXPENSIVE!!!! especially for 15x10x4 ft!!!!!!!
and filters are quite spendy too, at least the ones ive seen.

anyhow, thank you 2 both for the information. very much appreciated.

How much can you do yourself? I would think once the liner, pump, and filter are done its all just a matter of taste.

Dig hole: Free
Place underliner/liner ~$500+
Filter: ~$200+ for UV, after that its personal choice.
Pump: ~$200-500+

Now add:
Stones
Gravel/substrate
Plants
Waterfall (if purchased seperate and not made of the stones)
Piping
Electrical work
Fish

Pretty basic, don't take my word as a bible, just giving you ideas.

Deff. look into a liner pond. I not 100% sure it is cheaper than concrete in your area, but it certainly is here. I would allow for the biggest, most effecient pump you can get. I bought a High Effecient pump that runs year round and cost about 10 -15 bucks a month to run, maybe less. My entire electric bill was 17 dollars last month so I don't really know how much it cost, but it is cheap. You could do a lot w/2K, but don't skimp. If you need to add gravel and rocks to the bottom and shelves you could get away w/doing it later down the road. Save some money up and rinse them off well later.

you can easily do a diy filter with a any container and plumbing parts.

my bro took an ice chest and made a filter like this:

hardest part is the design and digging

yeah, that all makes sense to me. the 40 MIL liners look too spendy for me for the size pond i would like to have. do you have any suggestions on pumps?

that diy filter right above this is pretty nice looking [performance wise].

does it matter what i want to stock the pond with? i mean for filters and such?

and what about a trickle filter? ive heard of them before, but are they good or bad???

thank you all for the good advice and responses. i will talk again on tuesday since im going for an "extended weekend" with my girlfriend for a bit.:naughty:
see ya!
