New to MFK quick into

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Man. It's always a bummer when you lose fish. Sorry to hear about that.

I run my drip system through my sump. The drip line of fresh, decloraminated water enters at the top of the tank. Excess water leaves through a bulkhead in my sump thru a line I ran under the house, then out to the garden.

I only run fx5s on my large tanks. I have 4 going in total, with a backup fx5 and spare motor in case anything breaks. Each one is set up the same: pond matrix in the 3 center baskets with sponges on the sides. They keep the water clear and does great with the bio load.

I think your matrix reactors' flow might not be high enough to maximize the bb growth.

For record, I think eheim is good too (I have one installed on the tank in my avatar)

Until you get the water quality under control, you should do partial water changes every day.

^ agreed 100%. Great feedback

Yeah we are we are doing 20% ish a day. Today we just cleaned out the overflow box which was pretty gunked up and nasty. After we cleaned it out I put a few air stones in the overflow to keep all the excess deterious from settling in the bottom of the overflow (good or bad idea?) We also gravel vac'ed about half of the tank. We do have the Nitrites and Ammonia under control and the PH Slightly fluctuating between 7.03 and 6.98 depending on the light and time of day. We will continue to do water changes until the Nitrates level out.

As for the canister, we are going to purchase one tomorrow, it will not only add another good level of filtration but also added water volume in the filtration section which will be beneficial IMO.

As for the matrix we have roughly 317 GPH going through the reactors which should be a sufficient amount, correct me if I am wrong.

We do look forward to getting this tank set back up in a new home down in FL.

As for the dropper system yall are talking about, we currently rent in townhouse without a yard so the drop system might not be an option until we move.

Although in the interim could yall psot some pictures of the drop/spay system yall are running so I can get an idea of what we are looking at getting into.
