New to Midas.... question?

:iagree: i have my RD in a 64gal hex, big footprint, a lot of room to turn around. hes alread shot up in size in just a month. and im not just talkin length, he's starting to get some girth on him. imo, a 125 would be fine for one male devil, as long as it has a nice wide footprint. or you could get a 300+ tank and put a few in. :)

We're talking Midas, I wouldn't put a pure midas or midas/rd mutt in less than a 18" wide tank as they can and do get over 12".

i know they can get over 15 but rarley 18 in aquariums.... a 60 is minumum i think but a 55 would be ok if thats all you got

But if you get lucky and get a male with good genes and good food and good water then how comfortable is that 15" fish in a 12" wide tank. That's all I was saying.

for midas, the aquarium foot print must be large, nothing under 18" wide is ok, 18" wide is minimum, that is why 75 gallon tanks lend them self perfectly, they are very common in the foot print of 48"x18"x21, if you wanted to keep it in a smaller tank it would just be cruel, 50 gal breeders come in 18" wide but 3' long is not enough, 4' long minimum, in my opinion, i wouldn't do midas in anything under 125 gallons. at the sizes the fish are at in your case, the divided 125 will be okay, but when larger they will need more space

well none of my 55 are only 12 inches wide there 18-16 just saying you could keep them in a 55 or 60 if you had to...

you shouldn't have to if you are a responsible fish keeper

are you saying i'm not a responsible fish keeper? I think i am.... i'm saying if you already have the fish like it and cant afford a 75 a 55 will be ok geez

alright alright, imo it wouldn't be ok, and the person should keep other fish than the midas than. but whatever, not need to get argumentive i guess:)

yep basically you should think if you're realistically have or are going to have the right size tank for the fish that you're getting. When the fish has a good chance of getting bigger than the width of your tank and you think it's ok or "it'll do" then you're a irresponsible fish keeper. If the fish gets bigger than the width of the tank then you should realize your tank isn't big enough.

There are other width 50's and 60's though rarer than the standard 12" wide.

hey i dont think you can call me an irrisponsible fish keeper..... what proof do you have besides something that is in my opinion. I dont have a RD in a 55 i have one in a 60 minumim and my other in a 100 i was just saying... for 13 years old i consider myself a pretty darn good fish keeper for my age
