hey i dont think you can call me an irrisponsible fish keeper..... what proof do you have besides something that is in my opinion. I dont have a RD in a 55 i have one in a 60 minumim and my other in a 100 i was just saying... for 13 years old i consider myself a pretty darn good fish keeper for my age

What proof? Common sense.

Just because you're 13 doesn't mean you should be any less of a fishkeeper than anyone who's 50 years old. If you have a 14"+ wide 55g or 60g than that's fine. But a standard 55g isn't wide enough. Just because it's your opinion doesn't mean you can get off with giving advice that is wrong or not good advice.

I mean no insult but anyway you look at it a 12" wide tank isn't wide enough for a pure midas or a mutt for life.

i was giving my advice that has worked with me, i didnt say it was right or wrong and just because its your opinion that mine is bad doesnt mean it is.I wasnt talkin about a 12 inch wide tank because i didnt know that a standard 55 was only 12'' wide beacuse mine are all 16" + and i havent ever had a midas that exceeded 10"...

i mean yea if yours is a monster male is is 13"+ then a 75 or up would be the best

That's fine but unfortunately from fry size you can't tell which will be 10" and which will be 13"+. I know toerag had a 15" monster, josh had a wc 16" one and I've seen them 14". So it's best to be equipped and not with the attitude of if that's all you got make it work. I understand you don't have a standard 12" width tank which makes it ok and the exception to the rule.

I'll put my $0.02 in on the tank size issue.

I've got a RD/Midas that is approx. 9.5", I believe it is a male.
This fish, even at its present size, FULLY takes up a 75gal. There is no way I would feel comfortable with this fish in a smaller tank, even at 9.5".

And the tank is supposed to come before the fish.....

yea sorry for the misunderstanding

yea the rd/midas should be alrite in a 55,if its a female. But 90 would be perfect for a pair.I kno a guy who kept a 14 inches rd and a 10 inch female in a 90 in peace.

*sigh*.

A 90gal would NOT be perfect for a pair. Just because you know A (as in, ONE) guy who has done it, does not mean its a good idea. There are plenty of things that 1 time out of 10 might work out for a while, but that doesn't mean you should go around recommending it to others.

it has worked for him so he can recommend it... maybe the someone will take the advice and have it work and then again maybe it wont. Have you ever tried it? if not i dont think you should say it wont work 1 out of 10 times because you would have no way or knowing for sure

No, it didn't work for him, it worked for someone he knows. ONE person. I know a guy that drove his ford f150 across a lake when the ice was no thicker than 8 inches. So... you guys should all go driving your trucks across the lake when there's only about 8 inches of ice??? No.

Exactly. Unless it's tried and true and it works everytime it's not good enough to be giving to someone as advice.
