New to monsterfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I am working on the pics, but my iphone died on me. I will have some up this weekend. However I now have a HTH problem with one of them. I read the post about using metro, but the thing is my tank is new, the fish are new, so they are not on pellets... only live... Are there any suggestions about getting the metro in their system or another way to treat HTH that works well? Thanks for the help.

Lots of water changes and soft water for those fish.

sp. atabapo II are notorious bad for HITH. They are one of the few pikes that should be just left in the rivers. :( It definitely takes a lot of time, dedication, and attention to keep them from getting HITH consistently.

Water changes out the wazoo. Soak krill in the metro. Or just add it directly to the water if you can move them to a smaller thank. Anything is better than just letting it get away.

k thanks for the advice, yea I have the atabapo 2... my water levels are fine though, thats the weird part... I was thinking of force feeding the metro into the fish. Just thinking of taking a tube and putting metro in it with a bit of water, taking the fish out of the water and squirting down its mouth... any thoughts on that method?

Using RO is a much safer method than using chemicals to lower pH/hardness. If you do decide to use the solutions keep an eye on the fish.

Main problem with solutions is keeping up with water changes can be a hassle if you are constantly dosing.

I have high pH and hard water here, but I am able to keep just about any type of pike as long as I keep up on the water changes and give them a varied diet. Cren. sp. 'atabapo II' though just won't work in my water. They get HITH way too easily for me. :( Pity cuz they are awesome pikes!
