I have a single oscar and goldfish in my 65 while I am cycling it. My oscar is only 1.5" and he eats maybe two or three blood worms then proceeds to act like he is eating them and spits them out. He doesnt like pellets. How do I train him? What should i try to feed him? Crickets are not a option because my girlfriend is deathly afraid of them.

goldfish can also create a lot of waste in the water so depending on how many you have that could be adding to the stress. i'd check your ammonia levels.. and the rest of course

I have a 20 gallon sump. So its really a 85 gal but alright, i put some of the bacteria in a bottle in. I have a 1.5" oscar in the tank and one goldfish 3". They both frolic around together its cute. Should i try to feed him some live worms like waxworms?

okay, the one goldfish wouldn't do that lol. the bottled stuff is very highly debated from what i can tell. most people don't think it works, since the bacteria needs the fish waste to survive and [most people say] it can't survive in a sealed bottle. like wretched said, he could be a little stressed from a new environment. if you think that he's not eating because he doesn't like the bloodworms, you could try a variety of uncooked seafood: tilapia, shrimp, scallops, etc. just make sure it's fresh/frozen fresh and there are no preservatives or anything added to it.

by the way, just to make sure you know, the 65 isn't going to be big enough to house him for life. an adult single oscar needs a 75g minimum, and they grow very quickly

Oscars usually wolf anything you give them down. Perhaps time to adjust is needed.

Crickets? Lock her in the bathroom with a bunch of 'em until she gets over her fear.

The bacteria in a bottle doesn't always work as good as marketed. Tanks need to cycle, there most likely will not be enough for the bacteria to consume in a new tank. I would just check your water parameters to ensure all the levels are safe (i.e. especially ammonia and nitrates).

I would suggest trying frozen bloodworms to get him to eat and definately a water change.

Yes I do know that. I have a 112. And just like everyone else who buys a fish that grows huge "i will set it up when i have the space" lol. But I do have the tank and filtration for then. The goldfish will be leaving once the tank is cycled, and my buttikoferi will be moving in.
