New to Oscars, HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just try listening to what we are all telling u and test your water..and no water changes..and for next time just try either doing a normal cycle or if needed quickly switch over a filter from an established tank with a quick turnover rate for a quick cycle..

As far as a diet goes it would be best to get him on a couple pellets. Hikari Bio Gold, New Life Spectrum and use the blood worms and other things mentioned as a treat. Maybe once to twice a week. He is in a new tank/environment along with being young so it may take 3-5 days for him to accept pellets. Just toss a few in give him 5-10 min and if he has not ate them pick them out. Don't worry about him starving to death....won't happen if he's healthy. Good luck.

+1 I would stop feeding the bloodworms or any type of worms until you get him to eat pellets consistently.

He is very thin to begin with, so I worry about starving him. And my overflow will suck up the pellets within a matter of minutes if he doesnt get them. He usually takes them in his mouth and then spits them out. Could he just be a picky oscar? I will test the water, and make sure everything is in order.

I have never had or heard of a picky Oscar, but there is a first time for everything. If it is not deathly thin I would just leave it alone and let it settle in for a few days. Likely after it adjusts it will soon show you why they are considered the garbage disposal of the fish world. Complete with the food spewing gills that are so fond of polluting the tank.

test your water.......
