Hi i have the opportunity to obtain what i believe to be a johanna pike. I am finding it difficult to find information on them so anything you guys can tell me would be great.

Not sure if you've checked out http://pikecichlid.com/johannapage.html, but have heard this type of pike gets big and can be really mean. Hope you have a large tank, lots of dithers, and lots of hiding places.

Good luck

I use red hooks and silver dollars. Depending on how big your johanna are, you will probably want to get the biggest silver dollars you can get.

I would suggest 50% more dithers than pike. 4 pike = 6 dithers. That way your pike will be able to beat on all of them, and not focus on just a smaller group.

You can also get less aggressive cichlids, but you'll have to investigate which exact type you'd want for your tank and may run the risk of getting your pikes beaten up a bit.

Hope that helps.

I would recommend only going with one pike, as they can get rather aggressive towards other crenicichla. Dithers sound like a good idea

Are earthworms good food to start weaning it off feeder goldfish?

Yes earthworms are a good food. I feed my lents nightcrawlers once a week, and they love to play tug-o-war when the red hook silver dollars steel their worms.

You might need to try a couple different foods. They might take hikari frozen krill once its thawed. It's got an orange coloration to it, that they might mistake for gold fish.

I have tried both today with no luck but its probably still stressed from the move, hopefully i can get it to eat soon.

Has your pike eaten at all?
