new to pikes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If your pike hasnt eaten anything, you might need to treat for internal parasites.

Live fish might be your last option, but once you get them to eat something then keep trying to convert to pellets.

Good luck, it sounds like you've got a stubborn one

How would i treat for parasites? If you could post a link or something that would be great

What are the parameters of your water?
How big is the tank and does the pike have tank mates?
Temp the tank is kept at?
Can you quarantine the pike in a seperate tank?
Does the fish have an exceptionally sunked belly?
Is the fish's poop white and stringy?
Anything odd sticking out of the fish that might suggest worms?

I would raise the temp of the tank to 84+, do a water change then get a bottle of PraziPro from your LFS and dose as instructed.

You might wanna try some rosies though, no need to dose the tank if your pike will take live food...If he'll eat live food, then he's just being a stubborn jerk.

Pics might help also. Diagnosis is tough without visual

Good luck

It is in a 55 with a convict right now the temp is about 78, he is still fat haha he just won't eat but i am trying again in a few hours so hopefully he is hungry enough then.

Ahh ok, yeah he's just being a picky jerk then from the sounds of it.

Congrats!

I would suggest keeping with krill for about a week. With one or two days of no feeding, to make sure your pike gets a chance to digest and flush the system...It'll also make him hungry for the next time you feed him.

Next I'd get some hikari pellets, put some in a small tupperware container and place the frozen krill on top of the pellets. Let the krill thaw, making sure that the pellets have soaked up some of the krill juice. When you feed, put a couple pieces of krill in the tank and then put a couple pellets. Feed slowly, one or two pieces at a time. The fish might not eat the pellets at first, but dont get frustrated...Sooner or later they will come around to them.

"Dump Feeding" will only put too much food on the substrate, and not enough in your fishes belly.

Good luck and I'm glad your pike is eating!

He ate my convict... i thought for sure there was no way he could eat him well i won't have to feed for a day or two.

Sorry for your loss.

That is one draw back about pike. They are a stomach that's attached to a strong fish.
