new to plants, a few questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In that case I'll try out one or two vals when I can. And I'll grab some java fern as well and try that. From what I can see online java fern is not demanding at all, hopefully both plants can last with less than 1 watt/gallon.

You plant anubias the same way as java fern right? Any other low light plants?

I agree with anubias, I use it too. Although they survive with low watts, the more you provide the better and faster it grows, or with some indirect sunlight. The one below has leaves that emerge above the surface, and is over 16" tall, it also get indirect sun from a north facing window.

yup tie them to a log, rock or decoration, lovely plant..I have an Anubias gigantea and its over 8 years old..split off over 30 plants for it and its currently pushing 27 inches tall with leafs larger than my hand.
anubia nana are cute and stay small...there are allot of anubia out there.

Thanks for all the input guys, the lower light plants are most likely my best bet. Unfortunately my tank is in the basement so I get no natural light hitting the tank.

okay here's my plan. i'm gonna go with Java fern, Anubias barteri "round leaf", Anubias congensis and i might plant some Ceratophyllum submersum and Ceratopteris thalictroides to get some height going. If i'm lucky enough to get plantlets off the hornwort and water sprite i can let them float and i can get some more cover.
