New to Polypterus keeping- Photos and questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I looked at them for a bit and just thought "If I were a predator fish, most of this angelfish would look dangly and appealing".

I think I'll stay with polypterus dedicated. I like the natural look and I prefer fewer fish in a well planted tank with good driftwood. I will note that the senegalus seem to use the tank space more than the delhezi. He kind of just lurks in his favorite dead spot and looks grumpy. The senegalus eat more too.

Yeah senegalus are known to be the most active bichirs. Not the most colorful, but definitely full of personality.

I would definitely avoid cichlids. I had a terrible time getting food to the two sens I kept in my SA cichlid tank years ago. You can definitely add a few more polys if you feel so inclined. I found that my grow outs were more active with company.

Nice job on the aquascape by the way, they'll appreciate it!

I'm glad you guys like the setup. It didn't take much prompting, instead of getting other types of fish I've added another Senegal, strange colour compared to its tank mates who were gray/blue/dove gray.

I'll be sure to post some more setup photos as everything grows in. As you can imagine, since it's newly planted it's kind of melting mess on its way up lol
