hi im new to ponds and would like to know a few things. i have a 1000 gallon pond empty (if you dont count the frogs and turtles :D) and i would like either a native MI pond or Goldfish. which do you thinks better? next how many fish is to many? and how would i stop cranes from getting my fish?

michigan natives fo sure. I want to start a native tank this summer.

ok cool i can get free fish. but in case i dont go native can i have info on koi and golfish

native michigan would be good with native or wild fish the 1 inch of fish per gallon rule is void then its more like 1 inch of fish per 10 gallons, and with turtles you should only put large fish like bass and full grown blue gills and crappies. id say about 15 to twenty thats 5 bass 5 blues and 5 crappies or what ever order you want. as for cranes get a GATOR!!!!!!! nah jk try covering some of the pond with net, but with the fish and sizes i suggested you really wouldnt have to worry about cranes

not much info on those ive got them in my pond youd def have to cover at least half the pond with netting because cranes just love goldies and koi ,for two reasons theyre dumb and vulnerable and most of them are BRIGHT ORANGE. other than that feed and enjoy oh yeah one more thing the stocking rule on those is ONE KOI PER 100 GALLONS and ONE INCH OF GOLDFISH PER 20 GALLONS.:goldfish:

ok ill remove the turtle my girlfriend wanted to put some in wild caught by th way. not sure how she did it. i live in MI so it gets cold here... and i want to keep a pleco. would they last?

if a crane feels hungry and knows you have fish you really cant do nothin but pray. seen 1 take 2 24" in one sitting

PLECO'S A NO NO for two reasons they wouldnt last the winter and dont even think a bout a heater the natives wont winter right and would pretty much die:D

ok just thought they might live..... are there any aquarium fish i could put in that get big?
