As you are well aware I'd have gone garnet in a heart beat if only someone in the area even knew what I was talking about or could even remotely help me. bottomdweller72 bottomdweller72 if you can get garnet it looks awsome! I think clm08k clm08k lives in the sameish area as you she couldn't find it either.

Yep. I did look for garnet but nothing. I had it written down from previous conversation with you on it.

I found my local home depot has quikrete pool filter sand... 50 lb bag for 6.00. If I try it, I'll be putting it in my 10g only for now. With the fry in the 30g I don't want to break it down again until I move in March. What would be good tester fish to have in the 10g? (After I cycle it of course). I know corys would be good plus I always have them in any tank I have. At what point would I get the snail you guys talked about? How many for a 10g? I do want to move the dry into the 10g as well so nothing that would eat them. I still have another sunset about to give birth any day now. I can't let them loose in my 30 because they will get eaten by the pompon and possibly beamer lol is my vacuum enough to keep the sand clean Too? How do I keep from sucking up the snail?

Beach.
I'd only put the fry in the 10gal no other fish. Use filter media from your main tank to help cycle it.

Thanks for clarifying what you meant.

Normally I would cycle that way but since I'm still dealing with crappy filters from the sewage sand, I don't want to put any of those filters into the 10g. I'm really hoping the filter issue will be done before I move. I've never had to deal with things like this so I don't really know what I'm doing but trying to avoid a reset. I replaced one cartridge and cleaned the other 2 gently. How long does it tale for the new cartridge to be established so I can replace the others? If it doesn't take long then I can probably work it out right to use a cartridge in the 10g from the 30g (why I have 3 but the sand debacle messed things up lol )

Pfs is safe.

I'd pass on the home depot stuff. Ive never used it but heard its hard to clean and easily clouds the water
