Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the warning on that, none of the books or sites I have read about them suggest that it is generally fed live. Will look into them. EDIT: Checked into the fuzzy dwarf and a couple sites including Liveaquaria are suggesting they get 7 inches while the fu-manchu gets only 4. Could this be a mistype?

Other than curing the rock, and cycling the water is there anything that should be added to the refugium or just hooking it up and turning it on all that is required? Some macro-algae should be fine like cheato

Seems I am going to need around 140lbs of live rock for a 90 going off 1.5lb/gal ratio...*tear* that will be a perfect amount

Will probably take you up on that one if not answered in this page.
Sound's good
One last thing. I have a fluval 405 on the 90 FW used just for shuffling top water around. Is there anyway I can utilize this with the SW? I realize that I will have to clear out all the FW remnants.

You can use it just clean it and replace everything the foam, bio media, you can add chemi-pure elite in the chamber's instead of carbon this chemi-pure will last up to 3 months and add carbon bottom tray and bio media on top and foam and your good just rinse it really really good.

For a 90 gal standard size tank, assuming i have the 405 going and the water from the refugium coming back in, how many fan would be enough to have active water going?

So I am looking at the difference in real live rock and DIY live rock the agrocrete mixture.

Agrocrete is a lot cheap it seems and i can mold it to whatever shapes, sizes basically whatever I want. My question is this:

Do live rock perform any differently in the main display or refugium when using agrocrete or real?

I understand that there is a bit of a more undertaking when using Agrocrete.

by fan you mean powerheads right? it will depend on the layout of your tank. i have a 405 at full wack, so its gonna be about 1200 LPH (its 18" below waterline), i also have a 250 lph powehead, and another 450 lph powerhead.

my tank is a 30 gal. but i like to have a lot of flow as i have some corals.

your tank may not need 3x as much lph as mine. but it will get you near to what you want.

its cheaper and performs the same as regular Live Rock. but it can take up to 2 years for a piece of aggrocrete to become fully live. you will also need some LR in there to seed the artificial stuff...

a 60/40, live/aggrocrete mix is generally condsiderd to be a good starting place.

Is there a good online shop to get the mix? Dr Fosters and Smith do not carry it.
