You don't need de nitrating stuff if you're willing to do weekly WC's...if you want to do a FOWLR you probably won't need any chemical supplements other than the salt mix.

Absolutely agree, plus depending on your setup the water changes prob don't have to be weekly, I havn't done one since October 08 (ohh crap, this is goin to start an argument isn't it?)

thats pretty bad.. i dont have a tank with an overflow and for me to do a sump i have to buy i forgot the name but the hang on siphon for the sump and then i have to buy/make a sump. is the canister filter really that bad?

just make one. im in the process of adding a refugium to my tank, all you need is some bits of pvc pipe from the DIY shop and as many bends as you need. so a search for "DIY overflow". something is bound to come up. thats how i got the idea. so far its going well. just gotta make the return pipe (easy enough) now and add a non-return valve to the finished one.

and spring007, i was gonna add some LR and some of the stuff i have growing in my tank. i dunno what it is but it grows quick, and obviously uses up the nitrite as it grows. id use that instead of caulpera* or cheato (cant get it by me or i havent seen it) but if i do a DSB and add mangroves, and run a reverse light cycle, do you recon that would be ok?

my nitrites arent too high. just over 0.3 mgl. but less is better anyway so i wanna try to get it down further if possible. i dont run a skimmer, but my fish corals inverts dont seem at all bothered by that.

anyway No.1 is the overflow
2nd is as it would sit in the tank
3rd is a pic of the plant if any one knows what it is...
