For a basic lighting setup I use a combo of 10,000K and actinic. Either a 1:1 or less ratio.
Live rock doesn't need light to act as biological filter, but if you want any algaes or corals or whatever present on it to grow and flourish, of course it needs light.

yeah i am about to start a salt tank as well with a new 30 gallon tall i acquired while skimming through my neighbors trash last week...lol
wanted a lionfish...then read, and my tank is tiny...so thats a no go..
so far i have tank, and stand...
next in line is hydrometer...and salt...
my water is normally upwards ph of 8, which is good...but its extremely hard...so, i'm not too sure as if i should use it...or keep going to get my water..that has a ph of 7.5 and perfect water quality, that ive been using for years now..in my 30g fresh setup

do you have pics of the tank lite up?? im looking for ideas on colors and what will make the fish look really good.

so far all is good. diggin the saltwater set up.
