My best advice I can give you, is to take your time. In freshwater its easy to jump right in. Saltwater is another monster. Just take it really slow, do each step and wait a couple days.

x2. Just remember to have your key equipment up and running at the start of the cycle; adding certain things as you go can make for more hassle.

A good source for RO/DI water wouldn't be a bad idea for mixing your SW.

x2.

RO/DI makes it a lot easier because it removes all the impurities from the water thereby preventing you from introducing any nitrates, phosphates, dissolved solids, and so on. However, for a FO or FOWLR, you can get away with dechlorinated tap water in most cases depending on your water quality; once again, you're going to have to watch the parameters more in this case, especially phosphate.

+3 for RO/DI water. It'll remove minerals from the water and help your tank get rid of unwanted algae very quickly. Saltwater is not as scary as most people make it out to be as long as you remember to be patient and get high quality cured live rock to speed up the cycle of your tank.

Lots of good beginner info here...for dry rock try marcorocks.com very inexpensive.
