I have a gar around the same size who won't eat pellets but will eat market shrimp. Might be worth a try if that will work. But I could starve him for 6 months and he won't eat a pellet.

The gar is a lost cause haha. It hasn't eaten in 2-3 months and looks just as good as the day I got it. I've tried feeding shrimp, earthworms, pellets, krill, bloodworms, blackworms, etc. The only thing it made an attempt to eat was my silver arowana.
 
I'm keeping the pima, btw. I have a feeling it'll work out. The gar can be yours for $10.
