Hello,

My name is Patrik from Sweden, and I am new at this forum (great one!).

At the moment I am making some plans for a new tank to my living room, and I think I will get a tank approx 800litres (210g).
That can of course change along the way :nilly:

My first idea was to make this a tank for wild-caught discus-fishes.
Then I saw somewhere (can not remember where though) that people seem to mix discus with stingrays, and suddenly my plan changed a bit ;)

What do you guys think, good idea to mix discus and 1-2 stingrays?
I understand that I´m not going to succeed with baby-discus, but if I start up with 5" discus?

Is the tank somewhat right in size etc?
I was thinking maybe 200*70-80*60cm (60cm high).

What type of stingray would be a good option for me?
I have read the book "Stingrays from South America" by Dr. Ross, but unfortunately I did not make up my mind based on this.

Is the Motoro-ray the smallest one that is easy to keep, or is there any other types that dont grow bigger than like 30cm disc size? (12")

Thanks in advance, and thanks for a great forum!

Discus and rays go great! Best place to get info is to read the stickys first at the top of the stingray forum. As for the smallest ray, its definitely NOT a motoro, they get maybe up to 2 feet disc dia. Smallest is a scobina, but it might cost you quite a bit. No rays are hard to keep as long as you do it properly.

Most of what I have read says that discus and rays are good tankmates, but I do have a friend that told me his ray ate 3 discus before he decided to get rid of the ray.

That might happen too.

Thanks for all answers!

Of course, the discuss cant be baby-fish, I am planning to only have discus 4" and up, they should survive I hope.

I will read through all the stickys once more, please keep the answers coming!

i would look into scobia and hystrix rays for your tank... they are easy to get out of europe and get about the size you are lookin to have.... the discus could be 2-3" considering the rays will be pups... and as long as the rays are fed they usually wont attack other fish :)

i would definately recomend a motoro if this is your first time keeping rays, they are a smaller species, and beautiful.
