zz = zhen zhou

that looks really similar to mine, which is a red dragon zhen zhou flowerhorn.

i dont know its sex though looks quite young still.

also it looks quite stressed due to the stress bars on its body they only get them when stressed. How long has it been in the tank? Mine currently has bars like yours as it has internal parasites/worms, and flowerhorns are prone to have them, so i suggest you buy something to worm them before it takes to much of a hold like mine did which will probably die now.

55 gal is fine as long as its by itself, or the only cichlid at least.

apparently for the best colouration, you should not have a black background or black sand, as this may cause them to fade.

otherwise feed a good quality varied diet and regular water changes will see you grow up a nice little monster

hope this helps

he's in a 55 gallon, now its been in the tank for about 4 days now. he seems better now. i have a black background and black gravel already setup in the tank. cant wait for him to be big! thanks for the info

Give it some time and let it grow. At this stage it can be any type of flowerhorn since it's still small. Trust me, I breed them and one of these days it'll breed w/ something else!!! Welcome to the world of flowerhorns, it looks like but chances are..through many mix breeding, who knows? Thats why people come up w/ crazy names unless you got it from a pure breeder!! Enjoy and have fun..lol!!! Also, look at the dorsal fin for a spot for females and males don't have em!!

Enjoy your new flowerhorn! I have one here, and one I bought and will be here soon. They're such neat fish and the little ones GROW and CHANGE so fast -- you will be very surprised at how quickly his shape changes if he's like mine... I've had him since 4/17 and take weekly pictures. He's changed a lot already... And he's also in a 55g :)
