Well I don't know anyone with an established tank who is near me but maybe I can get Blue Sierra (lfs) to give me some if I ask real nice. :)

I have a tank with mostly gourami's and love it. If gourami's are what you like then that is what you should go with. You can use gourami's in the cycling process rather than mollies. Just start with a few and slowly increase the numbers. The blue paradise gourami's are fairly agressive to each other (the males) and sometimes to the others. I have three males but they aren't as agressive as I have been told. I don't have any females so that may be why.

That is a common request and most will be happy to help you out. It is actually the best and fastest way to cycle a tank.
 
Thank you so much for all the help I am getting but I have another question can I use the Bio stuff that's $30 and use some stuff from a petstore tank just wondering if it will be a overload.
 
I'd just get some filter media from the petstore tank, then use the amonia method to fully cycle the tank before you get fish. Then u can fully stock the tank from the get-go.

just look up on google how to fishless cycle a tank.
 
Ok before I had said Purity and I was completely wrong I was thinking of Stability. Has anyone used it before to help cycle a tank?
 
Any product you buy to cycle with is snakeoil, except for BioSpira, which is live bacteria (hopefully kept) refrigerated. Some folks haven't had success with it, but I have. You add it and the fish at the same time, and just keep checking your ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels, doing partial water changes until you have 0/0/20<. A liquid test kit and a Python water siphon will help immensely, especially with such a large tank.
But, if you are cashpoor, get media from somewhere (filter sqeezings and gravel). I would never ask any local shops, as I don't trust their tanks.
 
gouramis can be nasty to mollies and others inless ur talking about dwarfs I would say stick to chiclids like severums uarus others like geos silver dollars stay with the hearty chiclids the local pet shop guys will help u out buy urself a fish book n see what u like let the doctors tell u about the fish no one knows more about them then they do n good luck
