aquahobby is a good site to help you out they'll tell you everything you need to know.

get rid of the balas they get to be large fish, cardinals are nice fish but like water with a lower pH,and can be quite difficult and die easily if their water conditions are not met(most are wild caught were they enjoy a pH of 6) Keep us informed on how they do your High pH water.

Pearl gouramis, 3 spot gouramis, black shark, rainbow shark (1), cories, yoyo loach, rummy nose/serpae tetras.:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

why dont you try the dwarf gouramis. i really like the blue ones. some cory cats. Stay away from mollies and platies, they might have fry even if you dont have a male & female. sometimes the female is carrying and you dont know it. they kind of over run my tank, want some LOL

Noooo lol. Friday I picked up 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 Bala Sharks and 6 Cardinal Tetras. 1 died my mistake. Saturday I went to another pet store and fell in love with a Tiger Oscar. I also fell in love with a EBJD. So... I picked them up. So I put them in everyone is happy I wake up this morning and now I only have 2 Tetras but I knew that would happen and more likely my Dwarfs once the Jack and the Oscar get bigger will be gone too. I also picked up some polishing pads for the filter and ammonia media knowing that a spike should be coming soon. I am testing the water 2 times a day just to watch the levels and everything is 0ppm. Everyone is happy the Oscar is already being an Oscar moving gravel, attacking the heater and a air line by his corner. He isn't showing any aggression torwards any other fish well except the Tetras. The Jack is a little baby he is skittish and has a little hole he likes to go hide in when the Bala Sharks are playing. I would have to say right now the most aggressive one is the larger Dwarf Gourami. He is chasing everyone away. But everything seems good.

Here are some pics to show you the two new ones (Tiger Oscar and a EBJD). The Oscar finally ate all of my Tetras the last one not even 5 minutes after I turned the tank lights off I saw him eat him lol.

Wow...quite a change from the mollies and tetras. Best of luck with them...keep those pics coming.

BTW...welcome to MFK.

Welcome to MFK!

Welcome to MFK. Couple of points. Although you no longer have this problem, cardinal tetras are fragile fish and should be avoided for a first tank. Mollies do better with salt in the water and higher heat. I know they are kept in fresh water in stores but they do better in a brackish tank. You should be doing bi-weekly large water changes until your tank cycles. If you just used tank water from the fish store that will do very little. You need to use filter media or substrate from an established tank. I would not expect to have anything in the tank but the Oscar and the EBJD. The bala sharks, the red-tailed shark and the Gouramis will have a difficult time holding there own. No one has mentioned this but you have to consider mass as well as length when stocking a tank. A ten inch fish does not produce ten times more waste than a one inch fish. It produces in the neighborhood of 100 times more waste. We all live and learn with fishkeeping. One of the easiest mistakes is to overstock a tank too quickly. Keep doing large, frequent water changes. Good Luck.

No that was all in my thinking when I got them I knew once I got the Oscar and the ENJD that I am now tapped out. I figure 2 Bala sharks and the Oscar and EBJD are it knowing that as they grow my pretty dwarfs will become fish food. Water changes are not a problem for me I am a neat freak so it is all in my nature lol.
