good catch Balton, I completely over looked that......Truthfully, most big CA/SA cichlids dig non stop.....not good for planted. Pikes don't dig, I don't think Pbass dig either, but they will outgrow that tank......

I tend to disagree, some pikes will dig. My marms, both the Trombetas and Tapajos do.
They may not decimate a planted tank but the will try to dig in a certain area, ie: under root wads or behind boulders, etc.

I have 2 12''+ Pbass in my planted 100 with my 14'' lentic and they get owned by her. I also have a 6'' female festae that holds her own , a 7'' carpinte who gets abused by the pike, and today I added 3 4-6'' vieja synspilum that will hopefully break up the abuse.
Good luck with your planted project, I hope that it works out for you. If I was you I would look for 3-4 small wild caught pikes and let them sort it out. It might not be pretty. Also, I had a big female sveni totally dismantle a much larger Lima cat, so I dont think thats a good idea. Im personally gonna hold out for hooking up hopefully with some crenicichla celidochilus from Aquqmojo on his next trip if they score down there. They are going to SA to specifically look for those pikes. YEEAAAHH!!!

Only time i have seen a pike of mine dig is when they are trying to make themselves fit in a spot that wasnt initially meant for them....like you said, by boulders or when trying to make a small cave, usually it seems they only do it to find tight spots to feel secure.
