Hi everyone, I am new to the hobby as well as MFK.

I bought an aro from a friend's friend last week and took it back home yesterday. He said the aro is sick and sold it off cheap. He said that he aro has not grown a bit despite being raised for 2 years in a 6ft tank. FYI, the aro is 9inches long.

So here is my concern, the anal fin was fine when I first saw the aro which was last week. I did not see how the aro was bagged tho but I notice part of the anal fin was cut off as you can see in the pic attached when I released it in my tank.

Will the anal fin grow back? What should I do so the aro can heal properly?

My friend gave me 2 bottles of medication for the fish which I have currently put in my tank and also lowered the water level based on something I read on Google.

And also sorry to ask, but does anyone know what arowana is this? I was told it's a blue base that's all.

A link to YouTube of the aro

Thanks in advanced..

You are new to the hobby, and straight away you have got a sick aro in green water. You have really jumped in the deep end.

I am sure you can enjoy fishkeeping and learn a lot. I do not think this is the way to start.

First off welcome. I agree that you've gotten in in a very deep portion of the hobby. It's hard to say what's going on with the aro without knowing more. What meds did he give you? Did he say what he thought was wrong? Did the aro have any "roommates"? Also it may help to know your water parameters and those it came from.

I have to admit it was hasty, but since the fish has already been brought home and turned out to have a broken anal fin that is why I am here seeking for guidance on how to help the aro to recover.

I have 0 knowledge of how the previous owner kept this aro. Nor do i know if it was kept with any other fishes. What was its normal diet like etc.. All i knew was he had this aro with him for 2 years and it didnt grew 1 bit so he just put this aro in 1 of the aquarium in his fish store..

As for my 4x1.5x1.5" tank, the aro was the last addition to the tank. I had 5 red parrots a galaxy parrot 1 pleco 1 flag tail and 2 koi angelfish. I do not have a heater for my aquarium because im from Malaysia and the weather is warm here. Im not sure what the water parameters atm since the water is green or should i test the water as well with all the medication in it. You can google SKN S1, that's the medication he gave me and another labeled triple gold with a flowerhorn on it which i cannot find on google. My friend did not particularly say what's wrong, i told him the aro's anal fin came off he had a look and the next thing is he brought me the medications thats all.

Was the water green before you put the medication in? If it was then I would change it, at least 50%, get a test kit asap and use it. BTW I think you're way overstocked. Anyhoo welcome to mfk and the hobby. Don't feel bad, we're all still learning, that's what mfk and other sites are for.

The water was clear, the medication was what made it green. Both medications are green in color. I have the test kit but not sure if i should even use it on a tank that has 2 types of medication in it.. Might not get accurate readings... I can always place the 2 angel koi back to the 2ft since that's where they came from ..

After sorting all about the recovering, all those fish cant go in the small ~ 125g 4 foot tank. Too many and all will grow large.

Welcome to the forum!
How much meds were put in the tank? Turning water green doesn’t sound normal to me.
A torn fin is typically due to aggression and heals up on its own pretty fast.
