Hello to all,
My name is Frank Schulterbrandt (PetrochromisMan) ....
I am just switching from Petrochromis to South American cichlids....
mainly Geophagus.

Looking for adult Geos .... if not then Geos at least 4 inches

1: Any stocking suggestions for the 15 tanks below....
2: Any hybridizing issues ?
3: Any good Geophagus books out there ?
4: On average how long would it take most Geos to get to breeding size from 4" ?

Sorry about all of the rookie questions ...... :D

My larger tanks consists of

(1) 240 gallon 8 X 2 X 2
(2) 150 gallon 6 footers
(6) 125 gallon 6 footers
(6) 55 gallon 4 footers

==========================================
25 assorted tanks from 40 longs down to 20 longs.

Welcome to MFK Frank! Peter nailed it in the above post. I would add for #4 to try to avoid the 4' tanks for Geophagus species. There are some genus/species in the Geophaginae sub family that can be kept in a 55 gallon but none of the species in the Geophagus genus should be kept in a 4' tank in my opinion.

Welcome to MFK!!!

Wow you are switching 15 tanks to SA tanks! That is dramatic move! There are a lot of species of Geos out there to choose from. I would check out the Lets See Those Eartheaters thread (http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...T-S-SEE-THOSE-EARTHEATERS&highlight=geophagus) or the Cichlid Room Companion (http://www.cichlidae.com/) or Jeff Rapps' site (tangledupincichlids.com). There are other sites but these three will at least get you started on Geos that appeal to you. Once you have picked out some that you like we can help with the stocking! For your smaller tanks I'd look into Gymnogeophagus cuz most stay 5" or less.

Hope this helps and good luck with the tanks!!!
