Hi all, I have a question about my gar. I bought him a few months back when he was about 4" from my local fish store. He seems to resemble different species, have any of you seen one like this?

I knew it wasn't what they told me, they said it was a needle nose. I just didn't know if it was a hybrid because it has the spots of a florida and the strips as well.

Definitely not a needlenose. If you can get a good picture from above it then it's easier to id because spatula have a wider snout. But it looks just like my juvi spatula from the pic you posted

Longnose or most likely spotted gar don't look like an alligator gar to me from that pic

post a pic of your juvi spatula :)

99% of the Spotted Gars in the hobby are really Florida Gars. Spotteds are rare and it's usually a safe bet to rule them out unless it was purchased as a Spotted from a reputable supplier. Not to mention, that it looks like a pretty typical Florida. Very nice fish none the less.
