I need help getting started in saltwater. I know no other place where people are so knowledgeable about fish and the like, so i naturally came here. What I need to know.

1. How big of a tank would I need?

2. Is it really as hard as they say it is to maintain a saltwater tank?

3. Everything else......

Thank you!

it all depends on what to want the tank to look like.....
here's my "Questionaire For Begginers":
1) how much $$$ are you willing to spend
2) how big a tank are you looking to get
2a) keep in mind that the bigger the tank the less likely your fish and such are to dye from slack upkeep.
3) what kind of tank do you want to keep
- lots of small fish
- a few large fish
- fish only
- fish and inverts
- full blown reef
4) which kind of filtration do you feeli most important for maintaining good health umong your creatures of the sea
5) where do you live

there's probably more but this is all i can think of right now.
think this over an write back.

Let me add to what BIGgourami already said,
get the biggest tank you can afford and that doesn't mean just the price of the tank. Saltwater fish tanks are extremely expensive, but the maintenance is no different than brack-ish or freshwater

if you set them up right they aren't that mystical, mind-boggling expensive that they are famed for being.
Mr. I'm gonna buy 200 lbs of LR :D

Okay, I am looking at a 240 gallon. I want to go with some think like a snowflake Moray eel or a lion fish or both. I was thinking reef but I'm not so sure as it is my first saltwater tank. I would like larger fish though, we are not called ]v[onster Fish Keepers for keeping community 10 gallons.

well, i pleased to say that both snowflakes and lions are fairly good choices for a begginer.
scince you can house them both in the same tank, i would suggest cycling the tank with one of the larger damsel species, like dominos or sergent majors, so that they can grow out and be in the tank when the lion and eel are added. you could also get away with a breeding pair of larger clowns too. somehting like clarkii, or sebae, or maroons.
remember to keep the rocks to one side to allow the eel to hide but also have enough room for the lion to swim around.
what ever you go with, GL!

Yes, that is how I set up my tank. All the rock is set up on the back bottom half of the tank the top is barrier free and so is the front of the tank. This is a 210 gallon tank so if I were to add a lionfish he would have plenty of room, approximately the same size as 110 gallon tank, probably a lot more than 110 g

for a 240 gallon tank you can choose several fishes to keep ... a nice mix would be your moray and lionfish, with some tangs (yellow , hippo , naso etc), a big angel like a mac's or a french angel .... with a good room , you can keep 5 to 15 fishes without any problem and see them grow a lot.... if you invest more on equipment (huge Protein skimmer , a chiller etc) you can put even more fishes in your tank ... like 30 ...50... but only to see your tank to be overloaded.... maybe you should see Wayne Shang angel's tank to inspire yourself...

Should I get a volitans lionfish or some other species? What would you choose/recommend?

you could put any kind of lion in there. i like (personally) spotfins, zebra, blk volitans, and fu manchu.
the fu and the zebra are dwarfs and with them in there you could get some smaller fish in ther too. like anthias, dwarf angels, wrasses, etc. the tangs are a very good idea as these will eat the algea that grows in the tank and will not compete for the lion or eel for food.
