Hi, we have been given a tropical fish tank from a friend who no longer wanted it, it was in a disgusting state the hood was an inch thick with black gunk and there were fish remains all over, and the water was black, you couldnt see the back of the tank, anyway i have cleaned it up, and inside there are 2 neon type fish,1 orange spikey plec type fish, and a flat white fish. I have bought some tropical flakes and some drift wood and a gravel cleaner and it is starting to settle,

I am unsure of which food to feed are all the different fish ok to eat the same food?

Also i would like some more fish eventually, it is a 6foot long tank and looks empty, i was thinking some more neons or something to liven it up, any recomendations please??

By neon type do you mean neon tetra? These guys?

range spikey plec type fish... probably some kind of pleco. Does it stick to glass and look like it's sucking it?

Hmm... flat white fish... If you could post a picture that would help alot!

Here's what I would do. Find out what type of fish you have. If you have neons, get more of them. They like to be in schools. For now, feed them whatever your friend was feeding them.

Good luck and welcome to MFK!! :D

The picture of the white fish is not loading for me either. If the tank is 6' long then it is plenty large enough for a bristle nose catfish and neon tetras. As mentioned above, exact tank size would be nice to know, as well as what brand/model/size filter it has.

sorry i cant work out how to post a pic i will keep trying, the tank dimensions are 6ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft, the filter is an 'Interpet Internal power filter' i also forgot to mention there is a bubble tube thing,

Learn about the nitrogen cycle and how it works within a fish tank, this it what keeps your fish from dying in their own waste.

Here is a good link for you to start; http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

Does your tank have a heater? Your gonna want to get one for tropical fish. And neon tetras do best in schools, get some more of them too.
