New trimac questions.

The one in your pic looks to be a female to me, the dark area in the dorsal usually indicates female, especially if it is a pure trimac.
note the blotch in the dorsal of this female on the right

and in the pic below

Yep. Just looked it up lol. Nothing wrong with a female. My male red devil seems to really like her. They keep swimming at the divider together and "kissing"

You just think they're kissing. Pull the divider and it could be Thunderdome in your tank. Just sayin. :)

Sorry if this is not your intention, but
If yours is a verifiable true trimac (??) it would be a shame to let if breed with some other species. There is such a glut of mutt combinations out there already, you can hardly ever trust that what the species is, is claimed to be.

Duane's is right, Trimac beautiful species! Breed it with the devil and you then have worthless hybrids to only help dilute Natural fish! They might look like a trimac then you have trimacs that aren't trimacs!!! I don't understand what the fascination is with making hybrids, educate your self and try to preserve these fish best you can

I would love to breed pure trimacs. Is there a certain way to tell if it's a true one or not? They're really hard to come by around here. This is the first I've seen. Sorry if I sound stupid but I guess I need to learn at some point

Order from a reputable breeder. It's the same way with midas and true red devils.

There is not a good way to tell by looking, because whenever 2 different species breed together a certain % will look like the father, and another % will look similar to the mother, both are still hybrids.
If you got it from a LFS, the chance that its a true pure trimac, is slim.
If you like it that's all that matters, but if it produces fry, calling them trimacs may not be legitimate.

We will see how everything goes. I get what you're saying though. Thanks for all of the info. This shop usually carries rare pure breeds but this could be an exception. I really do like her though, although she hasn't eaten yet. I may try and give her some frozen food or shrimp.
