The male is a looker Seth....I like the algae look too, makes it look like a real pond !

Thanks man. The female is kind of blah but oh well. Muds and Musks can't compete with the colors of most basking turtles but they make up for it in their small size. I was planning on picking up a Striped Mud Turtle but I saw her and couldn't pass her up. She was sold as a "Florida" Stinkpot even though there are no subspecies of Sternotherus odoratus. I guess that's how they get around the PA laws that prohibit the sale of native herps. I forgot to ask the guy selling her but I think she could be wild caught. Or she was kept outside in a pond hence the nice algae on her shell

I've been feeding that male lots of stuff that has color enhancers in it and his skin is starting to turn pink!

Thanks man but don't bother. Stinkpots are the most common species of turtle up by me. Probably tied with the Common Snapper. There's a man made lake down the road from me that is being drained completely to fix a crack in the damn. When I was a kid I caught tons of these guys and painted turtles there. I should take a ride up there in the spring and see what situation all the stranded turtles are in.

Now if you come across some more basilisks....I might be willing to take those off your hands. :naughty:

Thanks for the compliments. :)

Miguel I saw my first Staurotypus salvinii for sale yesterday. A nice big male. If I had the space for him I would have picked it up.

well you should, Seth..by all means.. they are increasingly hard to find...

I wonder if the male is thinking why you got him such a fugly mate! lol
Maybe she can just be the brains :D You bred these guys before? Nice pick up mate.
