New umbee

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So how long do I have before I have to sell my pair of doviis 18" n 13" so I can move the umbees in my 240? I have at least 15 months right? No wait at least 2 years, if I follow the 1" per months scenario. How long will it take to get to 24"? Or the assumption is that the 180 was for life. Mind you I'm keeping them in a 75 to grow out a little bit then move them up to a larger tank eventually/gradually, 125-150-180-240. Is that ok or should I just put them all inthe 240? How people out there actually kept umbees to 24" in home aquaria? I'm sure it took 2-3 years.

First off it's your fish you can do whatever you want with it. Secondly a 180g and a 240g are the same width and I personally wouldn't keep a 18" dovii or umbee in either but to each their own. Yes everyone made the assumption that you were planning on keeping the umbee in a 180g for life because you made the statement " a 180 is possible". Yes you have time to upgrade. Under the assumption that you were planning on keeping them in a 180 for life I was just trying to inform you that an adult male would need more space than that and before it even reaches 24" good day.

Really myself and Im sure a lot of others would personally prefer to keep a 24" bruiser in a large large tank... why myself doesnt own a Dovii or Umbee. I would say a minimum would be 3 foot depth. Just me. 8x3 400? Even really thats not that large. You would understand.

Personally I dont see the desire in keeping a giant fish in a "tiny" aquarium, doing 100 percent water changes a day.

Just received 5 umbees from a fellow MFKer. I'm stoked. Had umbees before but bought them at 6"+. First time I've had umbee frys. They're in a 75 currently with a midevil 3" FH 2", marble pleco and a small catfish. Once they get larger and/or pair up, Ima move up in tank size and to a 150. Any advice tips n stories are welcome, ty.
