Seems impossible that you could score such a lucky hit on Google with such a vague search term.

Neat fish though, if it gets as big as the Six-Bar Dists then I'd like one myself.

In all fairness to 2NUTZ, have any of you tried searching "spotted fish" with the quotations into google image search?

That pic was the first result in my search.

The image is hosted on:

Image #16 in the slide show.

i gooogled it also and that picture is there under spotted fish. You shouldnt always assume things until you actually tried it yourself.

Why would I try it? I wasn't calling him a liar, I was saying that it seemed impossible to score such a hit on Google with a term like that.

Maybe the OP could take a picture of his new fish and we could compare it to the picture he showed as well as fishorg's Distichodus list. If the spots on his are even a bit different it could very well be a different species.

from the mouth it is a leporinus species.

a quick google search shows this leporinus frederici.

looks like the fish in your photo has his nightime colour as the stripes are visible.

I am pretty sure I have kept these guys before. back in the 90's I had a few species of leporinus in the same tank.

I agree, and that would explain the nippyness too.

Thanks for the reply's. I will keep searching for the unknown spotted fish. He is quite a intelligent fish. The only thing I don't like is he is nipping all the fins of the rest of my fish especially the larger slower ones. I will observe him in my 300 for the next few days and he doesn't settle down I will move him in with the chiclids and see if he is as cocky. Anymore input to the kind of fish this is would be great.

Thanks
