Yes they do create some mushy slimy stuff on top of the surface from what I see. But keep your water flowing and add in a power head to circulate the tank. This way those slime can be broken apart and be filtered out. This is how my water stays the cleanest.

The mushy stuff stays at the bottom & floats around when the fh dash around but I siphon them out when I do water change.. I have power head in there but blocked by the divider.. So I've to remove them manually.. lol
