New vulture catfish from Jeff rapps

Very nice cat, i'm sure you wont regret getting it

I am drooling first off!!!! Second I'd do like other's said and keep him fat and happy! :) you may have to move him or the loaches as he gets bigger, but I think you have time. Just get going on that bigger tank you told me about and make it a priority to get your vulture in his bigger home. I'm planning on getting one of these next week for my 100 gal, and will have to monitor his behavior with the other catfish in there. They are all very rough catfish so I'm not worried, but getting a backup tank just in case. :)

On a side note, this fish does NOT stop swimming! Super active, even with the lights off. I'm sitting here in very dim lighting and I can see his white belly flashing back and forth across the front of the tank.

He is still adjusting. It may take time, up to 2 week is not unheard of.

Vultures are much more scavengers, like say Leiarius, not as predatory as TSN at all. Not even RTC can compare to TSN in this terms. And that was more for Miguel, not so much you. Your vulture is 8". What's the length of your loaches? Unless they are tiny relatively, you have little to worry about as experts on PlanetCatfish told you in your sister thread.

I do not understand your reference to me...is it because of Loaches and their not being edible?

It is my experience that fish avoid them. Perhaps others have other experiences?

Sorry if I came off wrong - looks like I chose my words hastely. There is no confrontation. I would not dare to doubt your or anyone's experience and my post was an augmentation not a statement of any other kind. The reference to you was forced out as the OP said I made him worry, as if I stated his loaches are in trouble... while I was just sharing what I knew, is all.

no problem perceived, no apologies needed. I just did not understand.

My experience is that no fish will eat a clown loach ( i believe they perceive them as poisonous and /or fear their small barbels )

Just wanted to understand your point. Is all good, seriously. Different keperes, different experiences.

Thanks. I thought their main deterrent is scalpel-sharp spines under their eyes, no?

I have one from Jeff that's about 14-16inches now. He's pretty laid back until my curupira picks on him.

My datnoid looked at my loaches like he wanted to eat them when I first put them in my big tank but I guess he thought better of it. I don't see many fish actually being able to catch them, let alone eat them.
