New WC Pims C. Gibberosa Mpimbwe

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well hell this didn't last long....going back to predator Haps. Is there anybody in the LA area that would like 4 trios of WC Pims? I am sure we could come to a fair agreement. I saw this coming down the pike. Happy Thanksgiving MFK's!

LOL, what the heck? Not exciting enough, or what happened?

Haha, yeah I like the fish but not the way they look in the tank...and their behavior is just a tad to chill for me. I have been struck again by hap neurosis...However, I wonder if I went SA or CA cichlids what fish would be okay with the blue background/dark substrate combo. Or if I should just go the bucco rostratus tyrannochromis route...I found that I really missed those fish. The Pims just get way to dark with the dark substrate and I don't want to rinse a 150 pounds of sand in my apt to change it out...then decide I still want to change the live stock lol. I considered Petros or another colony of some Trophs but I think I want variety of fish in the tank rather than a colony (size shape color). All I know at this point is I want to stick with larger cichlids.

This makes me sad, was really looking forward to the updates on these. If I lived in LA I'd be interested but unfortunately I dont, plus dont have the room for them currently.

I am really in no hurry, but I am getting the itch again. I take re-homing fairly serious so that is much more important to me than the $$$. Actually, I have not had to remove one of the extra males yet, but its getting there the dominant bull is getting a little more testy. I am still a little on the fence about the whole thing. I think this tank is the last time I will use black substrate...should of gone with lighter substrate. If I didn't live in an apt would be much easier to change it out and rinse. Should have never gotten rid of my original Pred Haps...the person who got them is probably pretty happy though...lol.

Fair enough. I've never done a straight black substrate, my first 75 gallon I did was black and white gravel, wasnt too bad, I'm actually about to change that to PFS for my parents. Have you thought about just mixing in a white "sand"? Like the caribsea black and white sand? I've seen that work with Cyphos with good success.

Well, to sate my impulsive cichlid neurosis I changed out the substrate in my 180 before I decided to re-home them (which is eventually inevitable...I'll succumb within a year I am sure). So, put the colony in a rubbermade tub with an air stone and rinsed my 100 lbs of aragonite outside to clear (It is still quite cloudy in the tank). I used a graduated cylinder to scoop out 2/3 of the black substrate and to pour the new sand along the bottom to mitigate some of the cloudiness. Doing a 75% pwc as we speak and will fill the tank with my python into a salad bowl in the tank to help prevent stirring the sand too much. Anyways already looks much brighter. I am going to take the opportunity to re-home my 2nd in command male who is beginning to get some aggro and some dorsal fin dmg. Going to throw in some snake oil stability just to help a little with the mini-cycle I am sure to have...however, I do have maybe 20 liters or so of bio-balls in the back unhindered by the change...shouldn't be to bad. Anyways we will see how it goes. What i am not looking forward to is the diatom bloom that is inevitable.
