I recently made a wet/dry out of a bucket and spare tank, but didnt really like the look of it, although it worked fine. that build can be seen here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182771

since i still had the spare 25gal, and a couple pieces of scrap plexiglass, i figuered i'd try out a new wet/dry. i will still be using the over flow design from the first build as it worked great!

i dont think it turned out too bad considering i only used some scrap material. so the cost of the build was very low.

I still need to make a cover for it and clean up the silicone a bit.

the drip plate will hold a sheet of fine sponge for prefilter, or i may use a filter sock.

either way, this was mainly for fun, and experience.

let me know what you guys think please....

heres the wet/dry i modeled mine after. this one is rated for tanks up to 110gals, and i was quoted at $358 to have one shipped to me!

heres mine, i did my best to come close to their design.....
(again, still needs to have extra silicone removed)

Looks awesome. How do you cut your plexiglass?

i cut the plexi with a Jigsaw, i used a type of blade that is used to cut metal. it cuts right threw it. the blade meant for plastic melts the plexi, and the blades for different types of wood cracks the plexi.

Looks great----But I think the bio-chamber should be the main feature of any freshwater sump. And in yours it is a very small area. I would have pushed everything against the ends and made the entire center a large bio-chamber. Unless I am missing something? What is going on the right side of the sump in that large area. I am guessing a return pump but the space is so big there might be something else.

your right, the bio-area should consume alot more area in this tank. but it was made from scrap pieces of plexi, so it is what i could come up with, with the 2 pieces i had. the cost of this build was next to nothing. ($14 total for everything in the pic) so its not a big loss. The bio-area will hold 12.6 liters of media, which is a large area if used properly.

Since the bio-area is in fact small, i will be using all bio-max for the media instead of scrubbies or bio-balls that are usually used. this filter should be able to handle a 75gal tank im thinking.

In that case, just using what you had it is a fantastic sump. Anything that turns waste/scrap into something useful is good.
