Does anyone know if any wild albino pearls have been sited in the area where most of these pearls are collected?

I'm no expert, but the odds of something like this surviving in the wild are probably nil.

Yeah, a white one would be picked off easily.

But that's a beautiful ray. Too bad I can't keep one. :swear:

albinos survive in the wild all the time,,, I dont think there are many animals in the rivers besides humans that kill rays...

In my opinion there have 1000 percent been albino pearls in the wild where the normal looking parents were collected if there wasnt this fish would of never been born. how long and if they survived is a different story. For the normal looking parents to have an albino baby they have to both have the gene its is almost 1000 percent a recessive gene that both parents share. the parents are most likely heterozygous for albinism. this gene is in the gene pool its too rare for it to just pop up on its own in 2 seperate breedings within the last yr., first mikes and now this one. Alot of albino animals survive in the wild,,, I hate when people say they dont survive.... how do u think "most" of the albino morphs get into the pet industry? They are wild collected and than bred. Ball pythons,, burmese pythons various turtles etc etc The albino leo frank has was wild caught as well..

I would bet that in future breedings the average normal to albino ratio from the parents will be 25 percent albino 75 percent normal. every pup born will have a 25 percent chance of being an albino and the normal looking pups have a 66 percent chance of carrying the albino gene heterzygously. If the father was bred back to the albino daughter the percentage would be 50 percent albinos and 50 percent heterozygous normal looking pups who carry the gene.

This is like hitting the lottery,,,, Congrats to the owner....

very nice frank.... Congrats... hopefully you can breed this back to the leo? i think it was a male wasnt it?

Ohhhhh a VERY interesting idea. Especially when ethics come into play with ray breeders.

Do you inbreed the ray hoping for an albino or do you help the gene pool out and keep them seperated from mating?
