While reading this thread, I do have a question. How do we know for SURE that these are wild caught? other than the supplier's word that they are wild caught?... it is not uncommon for suppliers to embellish to increase the price of a fish..... I am not directing this to Wes, as he (I imagine) purchased/acquired/imported these from a supplier somewhere..... If these truly are wild caught, that would be amazing..... I have seen a couple of said fish and they are definitely nothing like the silver albinos being bred over-seas...... very unique.....

Frank, I'm offended by this statement. I imported these fish direct out of Peru with the silver dollars you got. I could even show pictures of them in Peru, and airway bill and invoice...why would you even ask something like this, makes my blood boil reading your statement

Sensei Wes, i meant no disrespect to you. As written on my post, i posed the possible questionability of the supplier... which has absolutely no bearing on your word or integrity. you have my utmost respect. I hope my lack of communication does not lead to further misunderstandings and hope you see me today as you saw me yesterday.

I'm just checking in here but what does it matter if a fish is wild caught or not?....A collector will pay what he can afford for any fish that he likes and wants badly enough regardless of it's origin so the whole things seems rather moot to me.

I am on your side. I agree with many of your comments. Platinum and Snow are two terms to distinguish certain characteristics and level of "quality" -- hence the difference in price...... the grading system for platinum fish is non existent in the US or should I say not used here because the market for platinum fish is found overseas such as Japan and China where such fish are sold at a premium. Platinum, snow white, A, AA, AAA,.... all have significant meaning in the platinum fish industry..... is it just hype to increase price? Not necessarily...... headshape, color base, scales,....etc all play into the grading system..... when these type of fish command such high prices.... I welcome such grading system....

As for the aro in question..... lets see how these guys develop..... they look interesting and different....I am looking forward to the development of these fish....

Thanks Bro Frank.. You are like a gust of warm summer breeze and a cold winter month. Thought I was alone on this. Thanks.

No grading systems for platinum or snow? I find it really strange. How much do they cost over there?

It makes absolute sense. Wild caught would mean commercially not available. Holding the first few pieces could control the market value. If it's not wild caught.. Means farm bred, the potential of the fish will be reduced drastically..

again to prove my point, and you just reaffirmed it, the fish that I got are wild from Peru.

Frank: The fish came from Peru, they do not buy fish from other countries then re-sell them, they can barely keep electricity going in Iquitos, they're not at that level of sophistication yet. They cannot even export fish when it rains too much. I don't know where you get the idea that its possible that they get fish from breeders of this fish and re-export them. Its not logistically possible, these fish are harvested from wild adults, with their heads cut off and babies taken while they still have the yolk sac.

I guess it does since you've put it that way.

Although the op's aro does nothing for me personally, i can respect the uniqueness of the fish and look foreward to seeing its progression. Wes does good things for us in the usa, providing fish that are otherwise unobtainable and at good prices.

As far as only collecting "rare" fish, does one get satisfaction from owning something others cant, or do you truely find the beauty in the fish?
