New wild caught lap

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice Lap. As long as you keep your Lap well fed, you shouldn't need to worry about it eating it's tankmate. Pretty much for me, don't put any bichir smaller than about 1/4 of the monster. For example: Your 13" Lap, I wouldn't place any bichir under 5" with the Lap.

yea, like I said im not all that worried about the polys eating each other. Thats a good rule though, about not putting something less than a quarter of the size. Thanks :)

He is a sharp looking Lap. I think it might be a sp. Koliba.
I keep mine bulging with food, and so far have never lost any small ones. 22" with poly's as small as 6"

Every bichir species is collected from certain region in Africa. In the hobby, we usually identify wild caught lower jaws by where they are caught. For example: Polypterus bichir lapradei "Nigeria". or Polypterus bichir lapradei "Tikinso Guinea". Polypterus endlicheri "Volta". Polypterus sp. "Koliba". Koliba is actually a name of an area in Guinea. That species is undescribed yet so we use "sp". It's a vague explanation but hope you get what I'm saying. So basically your Lapradei was wild caught from Nigeria.

I knew about that, I guess I didnt understand your phrasing I was more refering to how to tell Koliba and distinguish the different varieties

Neat looking Lap you got there.
How big are the nicaraguensis btw?
