New Wolf Fish (Hoplias Malabaricus)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I vowed a long time ago never to leave a fish in a tank with a wolf. The last one I had reeked havoc on my tank. It bite my dempsey in the body and he no longer could not swim and shreeded all the other fish. Keep in mind all these fish were bigger than him. I love them to death but my overall opinion is that they need there own tank.

So, today my boyfriend bought me a 9-10" wolf fish from a LFS for $45. Good deal?? Looks like a nice fish, good colors. Any specific pointers on how to care for it? I know they get large, and are very predatory, It is in a tank with my 8" Jaguar cichlid.

From what store, and did they have more?

I would remove whichever fish you like less. Those two together will equal an eventual major beating or death.

Nice Wolf by the way! I've always wanted one.

I have a 135g that includes a jag and a wolf. They have been together for about a year and they leave each other alone, surprisingly. Both fish have there own established areas that are on opposite sides of the tank. I also have raised my wolf since he was 2'', compared to 8' now.

make sure you have a good flat top on the tank. one of the hoplias' at my lfs kept trying to jump out of his tank and tore his lips up really bad so they put a glass lid on and he is doing great now. his lips are healing up. you got a nice looking one though!
