recently acquired a juvenile wolf cichlid and would welcome any info on keeping his growth rate high, he is currently 4in long and housed in a 4ft tank with 2 juvenile green terrors(5and half inch) while i await delivery of a custom 8x2x3 tank.

I stay away from live foods except panfish worms. You'll most likly have to chop em up if you do.

What works for high growth rate is feeding a little often, occasional meaty treat (I like the Omega One freeze dried products) and keeping the temp a little high at about 80-82.

I feed mine Hikari cichlid bio gold + as his main diet. Once or twice a week I feed Hikari massivore delight once a day and also feed him frozen Krill once a week. Keep up on the water changes...50% a week and keep the temp around 80F. There growth does slow around the 12" mark so don't count on a 20" Dovii in a year and a half.

thanx guys might have to invest in hikari foods as he hasnt taken to the aquaworld cichlid pellets at all, currently feeding him between 3-4 times a day water changes have only been around 30% once a week, would also welcome any info on whether wolf would be safe to keep with plecos as i plan on orderin 1 for the new tank.

Not sure if you know Dovii are carnivorous fish. So whatever you feed them it needs to contian the ingredents for such a fish. The Hikari Bio-Gold + is good for predetory fish along with the massivore. I have always seen very rapid growth up to the 7" mark feeding 2 times a day and keeping up on the water quality. Good Luck

i knew they are carnivorous, just havent known any1 that owned 1 before. they are a reasonably rare fish where i live and after reading a little about them i knew i had to have 1 lol. now just waiting for the 8ft tank to arrive then i'll be content..... at least for a few weeks lol

I feed mine HBH foods and live gold fish. Matter of fact you can check out my feeding live on YouTube in the search box type smitty03281964. I bought him just under 1 inch.

just watched ur vid beautiful dovi's cant wait til my little guy gets big enough for a goldfish or 2 lol

If you are going to go with live foods, Id recommend you raise your own earthworms, crickets, mealworms, shrimp & other small crustaceans such as crayfish, freshwater clams etc. Goldfish have 0 nutritional value & if purchased from local fish stores, usually bring parasites into your tank.
